Mel Caylo Joins Valiant As Director Of Marketing
by Hannah Means Shannon
Valiant have made their first big hiring announcement following the departure of CEO/CCO Dinesh Shamdasani and VP of Marketing & Communications Hunter Gorinson, and that is the hiring of seasoned industry veteran Mel Caylo as the new Director of Marketing.
Caylo will be working closely with Valiant’s executive, sales, and editorial teams to plan, execute, and oversee all aspects of PR and marketing, according to the publisher. This, of course, includes their upcoming crossover event Harbinger Wars 2.
Caylo has recently been doing freelance PR work after a long stint as a mainstay at Boom! Studios where you were likely to meet him tirelessly promoting their books via their booths at many comic conventions and fielding press interactions for the publisher. Previous to that, he worked for Top Cow and got his start at Wizard Magazine. Combined, he has nearly 20 years experience in the industry.
Caylo makes a very solid addition to the Valiant’s team in a time where stabilizing after a major change in ownership has been an important priority for the publisher. We wish Mel Caylo, and Valiant, all the best in this endeavor.
Valiant Publisher Fred Pierce says:
Mel is an incredibly well-respected professional in comics and I’m excited to have him join the Valiant team. I’ve known him for 20 years and have enjoyed working with him before. He brings an enthusiasm for the medium that will be key as we continue to produce the best comics in the industry month in, month out, for the best fans in the industry.
Mel Caylo adds:
I’m thrilled to join the Valiant family and engage with their loyal and dedicated fans, keeping them excited and informed about what’s going on in the Valiant Universe. I look forward to working closely with the talented team here and consistently energizing the readers to #StayValiant! I’ll see everyone at WonderCon this weekend!
The changes to Valiant mentioned above sprung from their recent acquisition by DMG Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based company, who now oversee Valiant’s sphere of publishing, licensing, film, video games, and more. Valiant and DMG most recently announced a multi-picture deal to bring Bloodshot and Harbinger to the big screen as feature films.
