Only two episodes remain in this season of Black Lighnting. We know all the players now: Team Lightning — for lack of a better term for Jefferson Peirce (Cress Williams), his family and Gambi (James Remar) — the “American Security Apparatus,” a stand-in for the CIA and the NSA from the way they are portrayed on the show; and the 100, which appears to be split now between Tobias (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) and the undead LaLa (William Catlett).
There’s also the Freeland PD, but after last night, it seems they will be reorganized thanks to Henderson (Damon Gupton). His intent to clean house may not come soon enough as the following preview of next week’s show indicates all the powers in Freeland will finally collide. And it seems that collision will occur at the most vulnerable of spots: Garfield High.
As for last night’s grueling episode, the depiction of Jefferson’s “processing” at the cop shop was really hard to watch. It’s an all-too familiar occurrence for many people, but sickening nonetheless. To me, one of the great virtues of this show is the way it bleeds in grotesque realities of our world (like police brutality) with the fanciful world of metahumans. Which suggests the season finale may not be as conclusive as the other CW hero shows; even if Jefferson manages to stop Tobias.
