Next week, Supergirl returns from its long mid-season hiatus. But the end of the season has already been scheduled.
According to TV Guide, the series will wrap up year three on June 18th; making it the final broadcast superhero series to go dark for the 2017/2018 season. The current storyline sees Kara (Melissa Benoist) facing the Kryptonian Worldkillers who threaten the Earth and, presumably, the galaxy. They are strong, less susceptible to Kryptonite and immune to Kara’s compassionate appeals. Meanwhile, Mon-El (Chris Wood) and several members of the Legion of Superheroes have made their way to the 21st Century for some unrevealed purpose that may connect back to the Worldkillers. And back at the DEO, Alex (Chyler Leigh) is still processing her breakup with Maggie while J’onn (David Harewood) comes to grips with living with his father (Carl Lumbly).
Next week’s episode focuses on Winn (Jeremy Jordan), whose supporting role has been quite limited this year. The story will see his father, the infamous Toymaker, take one last shot at revenge. In the weeks ahead, Mon-El will adopt a costume more in line with his classic comic book design while Kara meets a new ally who may help with the Worldkillers.
