Fresh Off The Boats’ Randal Park Joins Aquaman In Reshoots Role

by Erik Amaya

While recent discussion of reshoots have led to a lot of ill-feelings, this latest bit of reshoot news should put a few smiles on fans’ faces.
Fresh Off The Boat‘s Randall Park has joined the cast of Aquaman thanks to planned pick-ups and scheduling synergy, according to director James Wan.

If Wan’s hashtag is to be believed, Park is playing Dr. Stephen Shin. Created by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, Shin was a contemporary of Aquaman’s father Tom Curry and helped young Arthur develop his powers. But their relationship frayed when Shin attempted to kill Aquaman and learn the location of Atlantis. Later, Arthur sought his help, but they parted on bad terms.
It is unclear if Park’s version of Shin will betray Aquaman (Jason Momoa) or be more than a cameo appearance. In fact, much about the film is still shrouded in mystery. Certainly some may wonder why a new character would be introduced at such a late stage, especially when reshoots have a bad buzz about them thanks to productions like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Justice League emerging from extensive reshoots to become wildly different films than originally conceived. At the same time, most major productions plan for at least a few days of additional photography once they enter the editing phase to get missing shots or tighten up story points. And with Aquaman‘s release date far off in December, additional filming now suggests things are more on schedule than, say, the fear and doubt the Deadpool 2 reshoots inspired a few weeks ago.
Aquaman opens on December 21st.
