While some may debate whether or not another Terminator film is a good idea, it has found a fantastic choice to play the futuristic killing machine: Gabriel Luna.
Deadline reports Luna will join Natalia Reyes, Mackenzie Davis, Diego Boneto and returning stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in Deadpool director Tim Miller’s new take on James Cameron’s The Terminator. Though the site refers to it as a “reboot,” the inclusion of Schwarzenegger and Hamilton suggests the film will honor the events of the original film and its sequel. The subsequent Terminator films, however, will likely be ignored as Cameron returns as a producer for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Luna will be familiar to Marvel fans as Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider who prowled East L.A. in the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. His presence on the show signaled a change in the show’s direction which proved successful and he was particularly memorable as Robbie.
In fact, Luna’ participation in then new Terminator piqued my interest in a project I was otherwise ambivalent about. Like Cameron, I believed the story ended with T2 and the subsequent films did nothing to convince me the series should be on-going. That said, Luna is such a startling different idea for a Terminator that it makes me wonder what else Miller and Cameron have conceived of for this installment.
The film is scheduled for a November 22nd, 2019 release.
