Amazon Picks Up Jonathan Hickman’s East Of West And Transhuman; To Be Developed As TV Series

by Erik Amaya

The works of Jonathan Hickman and his various collaborators are headed to television.
Deadline reports that Amazon has picked up the TV rights to his series East of West and Transhuman. East of West, created by Hickman and Nick Dragotta tells the tale of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse in a Western-style sci-fi infused epic. The horsemen end up on opposites sides of the Armageddon debate and ally themselves with various US factions in a world where the Civil War ended in 1908. Transhuman, created with J. M. Ringuet, concerns itself with a future where rival corporations market engineered humans in the latest attempt to make all the money.
Both Amazon series will be executive produced by Hickman and his collaborators with Hickman writing the pilot script for East of West. Skybound Entertainment, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Sean Furst and Bryan Furst will also serve as executive producers on the series. Josh Adler is also on board as an executive producer for Transhuman. In a statement, Hickman said, “We feel very strongly about each project and couldn’t be more appreciative of how far both companies have gone to make us feel welcome. We look forward to doing the work and hopefully doing it well.”
Both projects reflect Amazon’s buying frenzy in regards to genre entertainment. Besides comic book projects like East of West, Amazon intends to produce shows based on The Lord of the Rings, Ringworld, The Wheel of Time and more.
