Vanessa Morgan And Charles Melton To Join Riverdale Fulltime In Season 3

Reggie Mantle will finally get to be more than an occasional foil on Riverdale.
TVInsider reports both the actor who plays Reggie, Charles Melton, and Vanessa Morgan — who plays Toni Topaz — have been promoted to series regulars for the third season of the popular CW teen soap. “Toni Topaz has been a break-out character for us since Jughead met her at Southside High — and that’s thanks to Vanessa Morgan’s fearless, winning performance,” show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told the site. He also suggested the pairing of Toni with the troubled and troublesome Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) will continue into the third year.
Melton replaced actor Ross Butler as Reggie when the actor’s commitments to 13 Reasons Why prevented him from returning to Riverdale. But Aguirre-Sacasa said Melton quickly made the character his own and will be a great addition to the regular cast when the series resumes in the fall. The character has always been one of the traditional foils of Archie Andrews and his gang, but the Riverdale Reggie has taken a back seat to murderous villains like The Black Hood and Clifford Blossom. It remains to be seen if Reggie’s antagonism will remain with preventing Archie from becoming captain of the team or take on a more serious tone.
