Boom! Studios Hires Jeanine Shaefer As Executive Editor, Promotes 7 Editors

by Hannah Means Shannon

Yesterday, Boom! Studios made a series of important announcement about their editorial staff that speak to an expansion in the company, including a new line of comics not yet announced. First up was the news of the hire of Jeanine Shaefer, who has previously worked at a high level for both Marvel Comics and DC, who will be an Executive Editor overseeing a new line of comics in a newly created role.

Shaefer is known for her work on the New 52 for DC, involvement in the “Women of Marvel” movement at Marvel, the “Death of Wolverine” storyline, and seeking out new talent for Marvel as a Senior Manager of Talent Relations. Most recently she edited Jonesy for Boom! Studios and Motor Crush at Image Comics.
Shaefer says:

I’m so excited to join BOOM! Studios right now, as they take the next step in their growth as a progressive voice in comics. BOOM! Studios’ mission and outlook, their dedication to partnering with creators to expand the scope of comics and the breadth of their readership are all vital to the health of the industry.

Following that reveal, Boom! announced that they have promoted no fewer than seven editors within the company, raising quite a few to prominent positions within the company.
Those promotions are:
-Bryce Carlson has been promoted to Vice President, Editorial & Creative Strategy.
-Sierra Hahn has been promoted to Executive Editor.
-Dafna Pleban has been promoted to Senior Editor.
-Shannon Watters has been promoted to Senior Editor.
-Eric Harburn has been promoted to Senior Editor.
-Chris Rosa has been promoted to Editor.
-Matthew Levine has been promoted to Editor.
Matt Gagnon, Editor-in-Chief of Boom! Studios comments regarding these promotions:

These promotions reflect not only the continued growth and success of BOOM! Studios, but also the incredible depth of talent in our Editorial team. Each of these Editors has been involved with series that have driven historic sales, earned critical acclaim and, most importantly, brought new fans to the world of comics with new, original series. I’m extremely proud to see them recognized for their accomplishments and look forward to their future successes.

It’s already been a big year for Boom! Studios with growth of partnerships and expansion in their lines of comics and graphic novels, and now they have the internal structure to extend their reach even further. It will be interesting to see what comes next for the publisher.
