It’s National Allergy Month? Snotgirl Vol. 2 Arrives Just In Time, Followed By Signing Tour

by Hannah Means Shannon

Well, she is probably the most visible allergy-sufferer in comics right now, so it’s only appropriate that Snotgirl Volume 2: California Screaming is arriving this month of May, which is also National Allergy Month. Who knew? And probably, due to the late springtime that the East Coast at least has been experiencing, the month when readers are most likely to sympathize with their anti-hero.

Co-created by Bryan Lee O’Malley (Scott Pilgrim) and artist Leslie Hung, the comic series and collected graphic novel features the adventures of an LA-based fashion blogger whose “glamorous life unravels due to severe allergies (and, to be fair, a possible murder for which she may be responsible)”. There’s that little extra problem, yes.

O’Malley lives in Los Angeles and Hung is a native of Southern California, so the duo are telling a story that’s a little different than the typical approach to the West Coast.

Hung says:

The classic LA story is someone moving to Hollywood to make it big. We want to tell a different story, about what it’s like to  start here, born and raised in the heart of image-obsessed California.

Image explains:

In SNOTGIRL VOLUME 2: CALIFORNIA SCREAMING, Lottie Person is living her best life in LA — or at least that’s what she wants you to think. Lottie’s new bestie Caroline makes everything an emotional roller coaster: first she died, and then she killed someone. Who will Caroline hurt next, and why is her brother Virgil in town? Is Normgirl really going to marry Ashley? What in god’s name did Sunny ever see in Charlene? And, of course, is Lottie ever going to stop sneezing?

Image will release the second volume in the series in comic stores on May 23rd and in bookstores on May 29, 2018. The volume collects Snotgirl issues 6 through 10.
