The Predator Teaser Unveils Creature’s Halloween Return

 
20th Century Fox has released a teaser trailer for the long-awaited The Predator. After years of dormancy, Fox’s other alien menace franchise returns to strike terror in to the Pacific Northwest when a young boy reactivates a piece of Predator gear. But as the teaser reveals, the alien hunters are trying to hybridize themselves in a plot only Iron Man 3‘s Shane Black could come up with.

Of course, trying to upgrade creatures like the Predator is quite risky. Fox’s Alien series tried it three times with Alien3, Alien Resurrection, and one of the Alien vs. Predator films. The Terminator‘s attempts to refine the concept after Terminator 2‘s T-1000 led to diminishing returns with each subsequent entry.
Meanwhile, the previous two Predator films — Predator 2 and Predators — knew to leave well enough alone as the Predator is one of the great movie monsters designs of all time. It is still quite effective and, hopefully, Black recognizes this fact.
The Predator, starring  Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Yvonne Strahovski, Alfie Allen, and Thomas Jane opens on September 14th.
