The former X-Man is set to enter the world of SEGA’s best known game mascot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Superman Returns‘ James Marsden will star in Paramount’s adaptation of SEGA’s classic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog. The project, to be directed by first-timer Jeff Fowler, will be a mix of live action and CGI.
The character, introduced in 1991’s Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis video game system, introduced players to Sonic and his ongoing battle against mad scientist Dr. Robotnik. Over the course of many, many sequels, Sonic acquired allies like Tails as Robotnik’s schemes became more and more grandiose. When SEGA left the console business in the early 2000s, the character made a quick leap to other game systems from former rivals Ninetndo and Microsoft.
Neal H. Moritz is producing the Sonic, with Deadpool director Tim Miller set to serve as executive producer alongside Toby Ascher. The film is set for a November 15th, 2019 release.
