Despite being one of the show’s original cast members, Jeremy Jordan and his character, Winn Schott, will switch to recurring status in Supergirl‘s fourth season.
According to TVLine, executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller are “already breaking big stories for him right now for the Fall.” The producers also said fans will “be excited to see what he has coming up.” The character debuted alongside Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks and David Harewood in the Supergirl pilot produced for CBS and its first season on that network. Initially envisioned as a potential suitor for Kara’s (Benoist) affections, Winn quickly became a support character in the mold of Cisco Ramon on The Flash with technical expertise and a pop culture quip for every occasion.
In the second season, Winn quit CatCo to join Alex (Leigh) and J’onn (Harewood) at the DEO, where his technical skills made more sense. He was also pared with James Olsen (Brooks) as the latter character became the Guardian.
The reason for Winn’s change in status will apparently be addressed in Monday’s Season 3 conclusion. Perhaps he and Brainiac 5 (Jesse Rath) will trade places in time as Rath was recently announced as a new series regular for the next season.
Supergirl airs Mondays on The CW.
