While dodging a question about who he plays in next Spring’s Captain Marvel, actor Jude Law offered plenty of compliments to the film’s headlining star, Brie Larson.
“Brie Larson has approached it with incredible dedication and devotion,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “She really turned out a wonderful performance — fun and feisty and smart. I think she’s going to be absolutely magnificent.”
According to previous reports, Law will play Mar-Vell, Marvel Comics’ original Captain Marvel. The character has a deep connection to Larson’s Carol Danvers as she received her powers by coming into contact with him. Strangely, both Law and Marvel decline to confirm that he is, in fact, playing Mar-Vell. In evading EW’s question, Law said the production was a “very interesting experience.”
There are at least five Captain Marvels in Marvel Comics lore; including the 1980s Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, who will reportedly be played by Lashana Lynch. There is also the potential for at least one more Captain Marvel to appear in the film. But it remains to be seen how many references to the storied past of the Captains Marvel the film will include.
Captain Marvel opens on March 8th.
