Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Brent Spiner To Join Supergirl Cast
by Erik Amaya
Supergirl will engage the services of Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Brent Spiner in a recurring role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spiner will play the vice president of the United States, serving under Lynda Carter; who happens to be a shape-shifting Durlan in the fiction of the series. It is, of course, unclear if he knows or if he will act against the pro-alien policies of the president. Considering Spiner’s slide into more malevolent roles since his Lt. Commander Data days, it is always possible. Then again, THR’s report says his VP Baker is “an unlikely leader who will nonetheless step up in a big way when his country needs him.” Is it possible Carter’s character will have to resign?
One of Spiner’s evil roles of late includes the part of the mysterious Sidney on Cinemax’s Outcast, based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta, which is airing its second season right now. He is definitely more tied to the ancient evil infecting Rome, West Virginia than he lets on, but his plan for Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) is still unknown.
Other recent additions to the Supergirl cast include trans activist and actor Nicole Maines as Nia Nal — aka Dreamer — and Sam Witwer as a version of DC Comics anti-hero Agent Liberty re-imagined as an anti-alien spokesmen. Meanwhile, Rhona Mitra will bring Superman: The Animated Series‘ Mercy Graves to life while Robert Baker will play her brother Otis.
Yes, that’s right. Otis.
Supergirl returns October 14th on The CW.
