Brendan Fraser To Play Robotman In DC Universe’s Doom Patrol

The latest name to join the upcoming Doom Patrol is Brendan Fraser.
Deadline reports The Mummy star will play Cliff Steel — aka Robtoman — in the upcoming DC Universe series. Created by Arnold Drake and Bruno Premiani just before the arrival of writer Bob Haney on Doom Patrol, Drake’s initial name for the character was “Automaton.” It was quickly switched to the better, and kitschier, “Robotman.” Steele was a race car driver whose brain was transplanted into a robot body after a horrifying accident which may have been orchestrated by Dr. Niles Caulder, the Doom Patrol’s “Chief.” Cliff subsequently battled depression about his situation, which should be a key detail for the character on television.
Fraser will voice the character and appear as Cliff in flashbacks. Actor  Riley Shanahan will give Robotman physicality on set.
The character will make an appearance on DC Universe’s Titans later this year in the form of actor Jake Michael. But it seems other than April Bowlby, who will play Elasti-girl in both Titans and Doom Patrol, the rest of the team is being recast for the series. Other actors confirmed for Doom Patrol include Jovian Wade of EastEnders as Cyborg and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane. The premise will see the team come together as Cyborg offers them a mission they cannot refuse.
Doom Patrol joins the DC Universe lineup in 2019.
