It’s a Vertigo crossover!
TVLine reports Graham McTavish, Preacher‘s Saint of Killers, will appear in the fourth season of Lucifer as Father Kinley. The recurring role is described as a “kind, deeply empathetic and revered priest” who is profoundly committed to guarding his congregation. Which includes “doing whatever it takes to keep mankind safe from evil.” It definitely sounds like he will tussle with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) before too long.
Both Lucifer and Preacher were published by DC’s Vertigo imprint. The former was spun off from The Sandman and is owned by DC Entertainment. Preacher, meanwhile, was published during the imprint’s push to market creator-owned works. Owned by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, the characters of Preacher could never cross over into the DC/Vertigo universe of Lucifer. In fact, the Lucifer title written by Mike Carey barely fits into the established universe of Sandman or DC Comics. But McTavish taking on a role in another Vertigo series illustrates just how big the comic book-inspired television industry has become.
Lucifer comes to Netflix in 2019.
