Legendary Entertainment To Produce Feature Film Adaptation Of My Boyfriend Is A Bear

by Erik Amaya

My Boyfriend Is A Bear, the Oni Press graphic novel by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris, is on its way to becoming a feature.
Variety reports Legendary Entertainment has picked up the worldwide film rights to the book with Ribon attached to write the script. The story centers on 28-year-old Nora, whose terrible luck in love turns around when she meets a 500-pound American Black Bear in the woods near Los Angeles. But their relationship finds huddles both familiar and strange as they encounter judgey friends, nosy neighbors and Bear’s upcoming hibernation.
Oni’s Joe Nozemack, James Lucas Jones, and Charlie Chu will serves as executive producers alongside Ribon and Alex Hertzberg.
Ribon’s other work includes the Boom! Studios series Slam! and screen credits like Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2, The Smurfs: The Lost Village and Moana. She also wrote the DisneyNature documentary Bears, which seems rather apt.
