Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has been sharing weird stories for 100 years. Now it’s jumping to comics thanks to Zenescope Entertainment with an exclusive two-year partnership. The intention is for the two brands to create comics featuring the all-true unbelievable stories and entertaining historical facts Ripley’s is known for. These will be set up as anthologies with each issue featuring 5-6 stories aimed at readers from age 10 and up. Look for the first issue in September 2018.
Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s Senior Director of Publishing and Licensing says:
This is an exciting opportunity to give Ripley cartoon fans more of what they love from us in an extended format with a partner that has expertise in the graphic novel format. It’s a win-win for both companies and for consumers.
This isn’t the first strange license Zenescope has acquired. The publisher also released some comics from the Spike TV show, 1000 Ways to Die. Those were told in a similar fashion, so this is right up Zenescope’s alley.
Jennifer Bermel, Zenescope Entertainment’s Director of Licensing & Business Development added:
We’re very excited to be partnering with a company that is as celebrated in the entertainment industry as Ripley’s. The Believe It or Not! stories have always lent themselves very well to a visual medium, so we’re honored to be a part of Ripley’s legacy by publishing comics with the company.
The first issue of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is due out in September with the second issue following in November.
