Henry Cavill will soon face monsters of lore and political intrigues as Geralt of Rivia.
Variety reports the Man of Steel star has been cast in the lead of Netflix’s The Witcher. Based on the novels and stories of Andrzej Sapkowski about, Cavill will portray the famed Witcher who roams The Continent during a mythical medieval period. As a freelancer, he hunts legendary monsters for profit, but often finds himself involved in geopolitical upsets (in spite of his own political neutrality). According to Variety, “destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
When the project was first announced, Sapkowski said, “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing.”
Daredevil and Defenders co-executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will run the show and write the pilot script, while Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström will all direct portions of the eight-episode first season.
