Sofia Vassilieva Joins Black Lightning As Outsider Looker
by Erik Amaya
It appears Black Lighting will assemble the Outsiders in its second season.
TVLine reports Sofia Vassilieva, who appeared as a confused cult member in a number of Supergirl episodes last season, has been cast as Looker. Created by Mike W. Barr and Jim Aparo, the character first debuted as a “mousy” bank teller in 1985’s Batman & The Outsiders #25. An encounter with Halley’s Comet turned her into a glam metahuman with various traditional powers including telepathy and super-strength and a few more interesting abilities, like the power to turn into a mist during nighttime. She also became a vampire later on and joined a new Outsiders team as part of Batman Incorporated.
Considering the character’s ties to the Outsiders — to say nothing of the title character’s history with the team — it is possible Black Lighting will feature the group in some way. Last season, Outsider Grace Choi was introduced, as played by Chantal Thuy, but seemingly discarded as the plot developed. TVLine also mentions rumors that another Outsiders character, Dr. Helga Jace, may also be introduced; strengthening the notion Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) will assemble a team to take on the continuing threats in Freeland.
Black Lighting returns October 9th on The CW.
