Magic, Monsters, And Fighting Back: A First Look At Sparrowhawk #1

by Hannah Means Shannon

Sparrowhawk is coming up from Boom! Studios in October, and the first issue reaches final order cut-offs today, so we’ve got an early look at the first issue of the five issue series written by  Delilah S. Dawson (Ladycastle, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny) and artist Matias Basla (The Claw and Fang).

The story is bringing us fairy lore like we’ve never seen it before, and it’s set Victorian England.
Artemisia is the daughter of a Naval Captain, someone who negotiates a high-class life in which she does not feel comfortable. She’s snatched away into another realm by the Faerie Queen and now must save her home world despite the hate it’s always directed at her.

Sparrowhawk #1 features a main cover by Miguel Mercado (Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers) and a variant cover by Stephanie Hans (Star Wars).
Chris Rosa, Editor at Boom! Studios comments:

No matter how times change, one thing remains true – the world fears those who are different and makes it hard for them to feel like they ever have a home. But SPARROWHAWK explores another equally timeless truth – that those same people the world persecutes are often the ones who work the hardest to make it a better place. This is a story about fighting back against the systems that seek to hold us down and the difference that one person can make…albeit with a whole lotta magic and whole lotta monsters!

Here’s our First Look at issue #1!
