If there is one thing we note about Riverdale around here, it is the way Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) is often side-lined on the show despite being a main member of the cast. It seems the producers of the program have noticed. During Comic-Con International: San Diego, cast and crew revealed Josie’s family will merge with the Kellers. Kevin (Casey Cott) and Josie will have to learn to live as siblings.
Additionally, Josie will feature more prominently in stories outside the Keller-McCoy home as executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa tells TVLine Veronica’s new speakeasy at Pop’s opens the door for more Josie stories. “It’s a cabaret performance space,” he explains. “Which allows us to feature Josie and tell the noir elements of a showbiz story.”
Maybe the Pussycats will reform during one of the upcoming stories. The break-up was engineered during one of Cheryl’s (Madelaine Petsch) last stabs at being bad. Not that Josie’s behavior really helped matters, but a reconciliation might be a nice way to open the season. Granted, such a story wouldn’t capture the “noir elements” Aquirre-Sacasa mentions. Nonetheless, it would be nice to see Josie less isolated and, just maybe, taking a little control in a story of her own.
Riverdale returns October 10th on The CW.
