Bucky Barnes Is Back In New Winter Solder Series

by James Ferguson

Sometimes a creative team is tailor made for a project. This is one of those times. Writer Kyle Higgins and artist Rod Reis will be helming a new Winter Soldier series from Marvel Comics this December. This is a perfect match and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the character.

Winter Soldier picks up with Bucky Barnes after he’s found his redemption. Now he’s going to help others do the same, even if it’s not as easy as he expects.
Higgins says:

As someone with quite a bit of experience writing grown up sidekicks, I know firsthand how important it is to define the character outside of their relationship with their mentor. Since being freed from Soviet brainwashing, Bucky has done a massive amount of work to atone for his sins–becoming Captain America, spending time in the Gulag, dying to save the world… in many ways, he’s found redemption. So, what’s next for him? He’s going to help other people do the same.

This is a really interesting take on it and it makes me even more excited for the book. Higgins has already written some great spy / thriller books so I’m curious what he can bring to the table for Bucky.
Reis adds:

To be able to work with a character that has such a rich legacy and striking visual identity is really exciting. Taking Bucky forward and building a world unique to him – one that still respects his past – is an artist’s dream. I can’t wait for people to see what we’ve come up with.

Winter Soldier #1 arrives on December 5th, 2018.
