NYCC: The Big Scoop With IDW For Locke & Key, Black Crown And More!

by Brendan M. Allen

In 2019, IDW Publishing will celebrate its 20th anniversary. In order to celebrate, they’ll be launching IDW 20/20 weekly throughout January 2019. The books take five iconic IDW titles and look twenty years into the past and twenty years into the future of these franchises.
The first title out of the chute will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 20/20, which drops on 1/2/2019. Next up is My Little Pony 20/20, by Ted Anderson and Tony Kuusisto. Ghostbusters 20/20 by Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening releases 1/16/2019. Jem and the Holograms 20/20 by Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan will be available 1/23/2019. Star Trek: The Next Generation 20/20 by Peter David and JK Woodward will hit the shelves 1/30/2019.

A television series based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’ Locke and Key is finally being produced. After two previous attempts at Fox and Hulu, fans will finally get to see the Keyhouse on Netflix. Aaron Collette will be penning the script, under showrunner Meredith Averil.
Speaking of Gabriel Rodriguez, he will make his writing debut with Sword of Ages, Book 1: Avalon, which is set to drop in the next couple months.

Under the Black Crown imprint, which is itself celebrating a one year anniversary, Punks Not Dead will go into a second arc in 2019. David Barnett and Martin Simmonds go back to the well with Punks Not Dead: London Calling… To The Zombies Of Death in February.
Also hitting the stands in February will be GI Joe: Sierra Muerte, a three issue mini described as GI Joe’s Greatest Hits: all the best parts of the shows, comics and toys, all mashed together.
April 2019 will see the countdown to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #100, beginning with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #93: City At War.

Magic: The Gathering returns to comics in November 2018 with Magic: The Gathering- Chandra, which sees Vita Ayala make her IDW writing debut. Harvey Tolibao will be pulling art duties on a book that promises fire. Lots and lots of fire, across every plane.
Star Trek: The Q Conflict combines all the Star Trek franchises into a single story in January 2019. All the captains, all the crew members, one story. Who’s the best captain? Who wins a logical argument between Data and Spock? Would they even argue? Probably not.
And finally, the IDW/Marvel collaboration that brings the Marvel Universe to the All Ages spinner rack kicks off November 2018 with Marvel Action: Spider-Man by Delilah S Dawson and Fico Ossio. Marvel Action: Avengers by Matt Manning and Jon Sommariva follows in December 2018, and Marvel Action: Black Panther will be in stores in January 2019.
