Humble Bundle And The ACLU Team Up With Publishers To Get The Vote Out

by Hannah Means Shannon

With the US midterm elections just around the corner, Humble Bundle has just launched a “fun and informative selection of curated titles” in support of “a more perfect union”. The Humble Charity Book Bundle: Get the Vote Out 100% Supporting the ACLU focuses on “civics, volunteerism, and positive resistance”.

Participating publishers coming together for this project include DC Comics, IDW, Image Comics, Lonely Planet, Microcosm Publishing, No Starch Press, Oni Press, Quirk, Skyhorse, and Tachyon.

Working in conjunction with the ACLU and writer Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Book of Eli), this promotion will be the first to offer the new science fiction anthology, RESIST: Tales From a Future Worth Fighting Against, featuring SF writers. 100% of all proceeds from this promotion will be donated to the ACLU.

Gary Whitta explains:

I created RESIST! as an opportunity for today’s best science-fiction authors to speak to the current socio-political moment through a sci-fi lens. Though the 27 stories in the anthology are set in the future, or on other worlds entirely, the themes explored are rooted entirely in the here and now. My intention for this project was always that it would benefit a worthwhile and relevant cause, and so I couldn’t be more thrilled to launch RESIST! in partnership with the ACLU, with that organization benefiting from the proceeds of every sale.

Danielle Silber, Director of Strategic Partnerships for the ACLU adds:

We are heartened by the outpouring of support from writers and illustrators who are championing civil rights and the work of the ACLU. Through their art they are advancing democracy and helping us to make dystopia a fiction. We appreciate their and Humble Bundle’s efforts to bolster voter education to ensure everyone votes like their rights depend on it.
