Riverdale’s Henderson Wade To Play Matt Cable On DC Universe’s Swamp Thing
by Erik Amaya
It seems Riverdale‘s Sheriff Minetta is headed to the swamps of the DC Universe.
Deadline reports actor Henderson Wade, who plays the corrupt sheriff on The CW teen drama, will be moving to a new jurisdiction as Matt Cable on DC Universe’s Swamp Thing. The character, created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, debuted in 1972 Swamp Thing #1 as a FBI agent assigned to protect Alec Holland. Assuming Swamp Thing murdered Alec, he hunted the creature for a time and became a member of the supporting cast until his untimely death in Swamp Thing (Vol.2) #84. Afterward, he resurfaced in The Sandman as Morpheus’s new raven; a role he continues to play even into the current version of The Dreaming comic book series.
On Swamp Thing, Matt will be “a Louisiana lawman who finds himself in dire straits when supernatural evil threatens the town he’s sworn to protect.” He will also find law enforcement runs in the family as his mother is Sheriff Lucilia Cable (Jennifer Beals). Presumably, he will also attempt to initiate a relationship with Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed); just like his comic book counterpart.
Besides Wade, Beals and Reed, the series will also feature Will Patton as Swamp Thing adversary Avery Sunderland, Virginia Madsen as Avery’s wife Maria, Jeryl Prescot as DC Comics’ favorite fortune teller Madame Xanadu, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne — a tabloid journalist from an early issue of Swamp Thing re-imagined as Abby’s best friend — Andy Bean as Alec Holland and Derek Mears as Swamp Thing.
Swamp Thing will launch on DC Universe in 2019.
