Laika Reveals First Trailer For Missing Link

by Tito W. James

The stop-motion animation studio Laika recently released a trailer for their latest film Missing Link, about a Sasquatch journeying to Shangri-La to reunite with his Yeti brethren. Accompanying Mr. Link are adventurers Sir Lionel Frost and Adelina Fortnight–together they will thwart perils and dastardly villains in their epic journey across the world.

From the trailer, Missing Link appears to be much lighter in tone than Laika standout films like Coraline and Kubo and The Two Strings. Despite the fact that Mr. Link is Laika’s first adult protagonist, the film looks childish and the dastardly villains are nowhere to be seen.

However, Paranorman and Boxtrolls turned out to be much more than met the eye in their initial trailers. Given that animated features are still generally considered “family fare,” Laika’s marketing team may have scrubbed any scary material from the trailer. From the puppets and environments, Missing Link looks to be Laika’s biggest production in terms of scope, but let’s hope they haven’t lost their vision.
