Supergirl Faces The Children Of Liberty In A Preview Of Next Week’s Show
by Erik Amaya
Though teased this week, the Children of Liberty will finally make their presence known on next Sunday’s episode of Supergirl. And as this preview shows, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will not be prepared for just how many people identify with Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) and his message.
Although, that ubiquity of hate is something the series is layering in pretty successfully. Between Alex’s (Chyler Leigh) new superior, the woman with the half-alien child, and the people James (Mehcad Brooks) and Lena (Katie McGrath) met at the Mayor’s gathering, the anti-alien sentiment is not just for fringe groups. But hate works its magic that way, already infesting otherwise good, warm people. Consider the rapport Alex and Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) had until she finally revealed her dislike of J’onn (David Harewood) and how he ran the DEO.
And that’s the dry brush Liberty is using to foment something so serious, the show will not easily resolve it. Even if Kara is successful in defeating Liberty, she will never defeat this ever-simmering tide of hatred.
Which makes one wish there were more moments like the balcony party which opened the episode. Seeing Brainy (Jesse Rath) drunk was worth all the other ill-tidings within the story.
Supergirl airs Sundays on The CW.
