More Apes New & Old In Planet Of The Apes: The Simian Age #1 First Look

by James Ferguson

Next month sees the release of Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age #1, an all-new one-shot collecting stories from both the new and old film series. Boom! Studios, in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, has put together a dream team of creators to tell these stories that expand the mythos of the franchise showing the beginnings of the dominant simian civilization.

Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age #1 is written by Jeff Jensen, Matt Kindt, and Ryan Ferrier and illustrated by Jared Cullum, Matt Smith, and Lalit Kumar Sharma. It will feature a main cover by Fay Dalton and John Keaveney and a variant cover by Michael and Laura Allred.

Cameron Chittock, editor at Boom! Studios says:

Taking place in both the original series and new, the stories in Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age #1 span from the birth of simian morality to ape’s peak as the dominant species of Earth. For fifty years, the Planet of the Apes franchise has held a mirror up to humanity, and The Simian Age shows us what happens when a burgeoning civilization is given the choice to kill or to show mercy, and the fallout of that decision.

This sounds and looks like it will be a great complement to the recently released Planet of the Apes: Time of Man one-shot. As a fan of the franchise, I’m of the belief that more apes is always a good thing. Look for Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age #1 on December 12th, 2018.
