Tinkerbell Meets Silence Of The Lambs In Null Faeries From Action Lab: Danger Zone
by James Ferguson
If you wanted a more grown up take on fantasy and magical worlds like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, Action Lab: Danger Zone has your covered with the upcoming series, Null Faeries. Written and illustrated by Chad Cicconi, the comic features colors by Eddy Swan and letters by Adam Wollett. It begins when a massive shipment of pixie dust is stolen from the Faerie Queen. She must summon a forgotten champion who is wounded, aged, and mortal back into service as her Inquisitor to investigate and save the Faerie world from ruin.
Creator Chad Cicconi says:
I first and foremost want readers to experience an exciting fantasy tale with a rich setting and compelling characters, that draws them along in wonder, horror, suspense and joy in equal measure as it unfolds. But more than that, I want readers to gain a renewed appreciation for our shared backdrop of myth and ‘faerie tales’, and appreciate how present and ripe our collective ‘fantasy’ world is with possibilities for new and enchanting stories.
Null Faeries plays with myths and folklore, interpreting them through a new set of eyes. The Faeries we read about as children are not simple or cartoonish, but fierce warriors that experience crises, problems, intrigue, passions, and sorrows just as deep and meaningful as those in the human world. They go through all that while trying to serve and protect humanity from dark forces that might destroy us.
Cicconi adds:
Writing and drawing Null Faeries has been a journey of discovery, of frustration, of anticipation and despair. In creating it I have pushed myself beyond where I thought my capabilities were, and I am both proud and humbled by the result. Like the story’s main character, we have all felt alone and powerless in a world animated by forces we cannot touch. But, like her, intellect, work and perseverance can carry us through. To have the chance to place the Null Faeries in your hands is the culmination of 20+ year’s work as an amateur writer, and 10+ years’ work as a comic book artist. I sincerely hope you enjoy the journey of reading it as much as I did creating it.
Null Faeries is planned as a six-issue mini-series kicking off on January 9th, 2019. It will feature two different covers by Cicconi and another by Sorah Suhng.
