The Final Showdown Against Eson Duul in Red Sonja/Tarzan #6

by Josh Davison

[*Mild Spoilers Ahead!]
Red Sonja and Tarzan have arrived in the land of Pellucidar, the world at the center of the Earth. They are greeted with great flying lizards, but Tarzan is skilled at dispatching the creatures. He is less certain about his ability to fight Eson Duul and his Mahar followers, the apelike creatures that inhabit the land of Pellucidar. Tarzan has a plan, even if it is a suicide mission. Red Sonja is ready to follow him into the breach and make one last attempt to stop Eson Duul for good.

Red Sonja/Tarzan #6 closes out the crossover miniseries with a bang, delivering an action-packed and brutal struggle of Sonja and Tarzan against Duul and his murderous allies.
The dialogue between Red Sonja and Tarzan continues to entertain, with this issue finding Sonja doing everything she can to push Greystoke’s buttons. This is partially brought on by Tarzan’s dower resolution that he is nothing but a burden on his family.
Eson Duul is a great villain, and, consequently, you are glad to see him be challenged well and brought to heel.
The final blowout battle is truly enjoyable, made possible by clever scripting from Gail Simone and the impeccable artwork of Walter Geovani.

Geovani’s artwork is kinetic, gritty, and fantastically detailed. The fight between Sonja and Tarzan against Duul’s forces, the fight we’ve been waiting for since the first issue, is easily worth the wait. Adriano Augusto’s color work is lively and appealing too, bringing the visuals together nicely.
Red Sonja/Tarzan #6 is a hell of a finale to this overall great miniseries. We receive an epic final battle between our heroes and their great time-travelling villain. The writing and art are both top-notch, and this book is easily worth a recommendation. Give it a read.
