Mads Mikkelsen Is The Black Kaiser: Watch The First Trailer For Netflix’s Polar

Polar is Netflix’s new action spy film based on the series of graphic novels by Victor Santos of the same name. Starring in the film is Mads Mikkelsen as a the Black Kaiser, an assassin forced out of retirement when his ex-employer hires a colorful cast of young contract killers. Joining Mikkelsen in supporting roles are Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Matt Lucas (Doctor Who) and a film score by DeadMou5.
Judging by the trailer it appear the filmmakers were able to capture the core elements of the Polar comics while also taking creative liberties. The characters noticeably have highly saturated costumes reminiscent of the comic’s limited color palettes.
The Black Kaiser is seen using improvised weapons as well as some brutal looking gadgets. The use of split-screen adds variety to the visual storytelling while also evoking the aesthetic of a comic book. Overall fans of the comic have plenty of reasons to be excited.
Polar will begin streaming on Netflix on January 25th, 2019.
