City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes introduces Tsukasa Hojo’s ‘Cat’s Eye’ Characters

by Sage Ashford

Manga artist Tsukasa Hojo’s creations collide in the trailer of the new City Hunter movie, City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes. Though the trailer is largely focused more on the adventure of Saeba Ryo and friends, there’s a distinct moment where we’re shown the “Cat’s Eye” trio.
“Cat’s Eye” was a manga predating “City Hunter”, running in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1985, following a trio of sisters who run a cafe known as “Cat’s Eye”….and steal famous artwork on the side.  Though we aren’t sure what their part in the story will be, the way they’re presented in this trailer make it seem as if they’ll have some importance to the plot. Though this is likely just showing respect to both of Hojo’s biggest creations, hopefully after this movie comes out at least one of them gets to experience some sort of revival.
City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes airs in Japanese theaters on February 8th.
