Game Of Thrones Returns April 14th
by Erik Amaya
HBO announced the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will debut on April 14th.
Based on author George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, Game of Thrones outpaced the author by delving into events beyond the fifth book, A Dance of Dragons, in its seventh year. Consequently, the pace of the series seemed to quicken with major players in the Game of Thrones ending their time at the table, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finally meeting, and the creation of an ice dragon. It, of course, remains to be seen if Martin’s sixth novel, The Winds of Winter, will feature similar events or spend most of its time mired in the Battle for Meereen, an epic event the producers of Game of Thrones chose not to dramatize.
As in previous years, the program will air Sunday nights at 9pm eastern through the spring. Of course, the eighth season marks a difference as the program will last only six episodes — though reports indicate these episodes will be feature length to tie up as many loose ends as remain in the sprawling saga.
The network also produced an interesting teaser for the upcoming season which brings the Ice right into the crypts under Winterfell.
