Cicada Returns In A Preview Of The Flash’s Next Episode

The Flash is back. And after a nice pause from the main plot to establish some new ideas, Cicada (Chris Klein) is also set to return from his meta murdering sabbatical. And as this preview of next week’s show indicates, it will be up to Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of Team Flash to save a group of wayward metas from his killing spree.
As is traditional with the show, we’ve hit the low-tide part of the season. Note the way this week’s episode opened with a recap of Cicada and his apparent disappearance over the winter break. That tends to happen on this show (and, indeed, across most of The CW’s full-season programs) for the sake of drawing out the big bad across 22 episodes. Hopefully, Cicada’s return will re-establish the threat he represents effectively.
Meanwhile, this week’s show introduced more interesting ideas like Cisco’s (Carlos Valdes) meta cure and a possible redemption for Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) in 2049. Those concepts feel more palpable and credible since they are based in long-standing characters rather than a silly external threat. Maybe next week’s show will surprise us by finishing off Cicada entirely and moving on to Thawne’s latest scheme … unless, of course, his redemption is somehow genuine.
