One of Netflix’s Millarworld projects is getting closer to reality.
Deadline reports The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay will direct an adaptation of Mark Millar and Greg Capullo’s Reborn. The series, which debuted in 2016, tells the tale of Bonnie Black, an eighty-year old who embraces death only to be reborn in Adystria, a fantastical world where she finds her long-dead friends and family in addition to a long war between good and evil. But when her husband turns up missing, Bonnie and her father set off on a quest to discover his whereabouts.
Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment will join Sandra Bullock as producers. It is also possible she will decide to star in the film.
Reborn joins the streaming service’s ambitions plans to develop various Millarworld comic books into features and television series. Previously announced projects include series based on American Jesus and Jupiter’s Legacy and feature film versions of Empress, Huck, and Sharkey The Bounty Hunter. Netflix bought Millarworld in 2017 with an eye toward developing the writer’s extensive catalogue into various media.
It is unclear when the film will go into production. McKay has been linked to films as varied as Nightwing, Dungeons & Dragons and Johnny Quest, but knowing the speed at which Netflix moves, it may be the first on his list to go into production.
