The Umbrella Academy And Jaws Top Our Picks Of Netflix’s February Releases

by Erik Amaya

The Umbrella Academy finally makes its debut on Netflix next month and tops our picks for the services February releases.
Based on the comic book by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, the series follows the lives of a dysfunctional family of superheroes. Though estranged for many years, they come together to solve the death of their adoptive father and discover the whereabouts of a long-missing sibling. They also confront a number of personal issues along the way. Ellen Page plays Vanya, the only member of the family lacking for super skills. Described as a meek and insecure wallflower, she struggles to find a place in a family of super geniuses, space-farers and the like. The cast also includes Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Robert Sheehan and Aidan Gallagher as other members of Vanya’s family.
On the film side of things, the Jaws series returns after some time off the service. The first film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is a classic; setting the stage for the blockbuster era of movie making. But we also suggest watching Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge for a cheesy good time. Jaws 2, meanwhile, is almost a respectable movie, but sinks under its own mediocrity. Nevertheless, take this get reacquainted with Bruce the shark, Chief Brody, Hooper, Calvin Bouchard and the rest of the Jaws gang. You’ll be glad you did.
Of course, these are just our picks. Here’s the full list of titles debuting and departing Netflix in February:
