The Team Faces A Future Without Coulson In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 Teaser

For a moment, it seemed like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would end with its fifth season. All of its storylines, going back to early episodes, were resolved. Mack (Henry Simmons) was named director, Daisy (Chloe Bennet) learned she didn’t destroy the world, Coulson (Clark Gregg) left for Tahiti with May (Ming-Na Wen) to spend out his final days and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) died saving people. But then ABC renewed the series and even went ahead and ordered a seventh season while the sixth was still in production.
Of course, it was still unclear if Coulson would find some magic reprieve while the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe dealt with Thanos.
But ABC finally released a teaser for the upcoming season declaring Coulson’s death. Nonetheless, he’s still around in some form. Meanwhile, Daisy and some of the others head out into space to find the earlier version of Fitz who took the slow way to a future which no longer exists. And if that last sentence sounds strange, that’s part of the thrill of being a S.H.I.E.L.D. fan.

In a crowded marketplace of television shows based on comic books, S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s move to the summer means it won’t get lost in the regular season shuffle; where if definitely suffered last year. It will share the off-season with shows like Preacher and Wynonna Earp, but not the torrent of CW shows and Netflix’s dispatching of its remaining Marvel product. Perhaps more people will come and see this scrappy, lovable and oddball slice of the MCU.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns in the summer.
