Lucy Hale Cast As Katy Keene For CW Pilot

Lucy Hale is set to join the Archie Comics TV universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Pretty Little Liars vet has been cast in the title role of The CW’s upcoming Katy Keene pilot. Based on the Archie Comics characters, the musical dramedy charts the lives of the title character, Riverdale‘s Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), and two other young adults (Jonny Beauchamp as Ginger Lopez and Julia Chan as Pepper Smith) as they try to make it in New York City.
Created in 1945 by Bill Woggon, the character has always been a fashion-plate; vacillating from model to actress to singer. The television Katy is described as “bold, big-hearted and independent and a New Yorker with dreams of being a fashion designer.” Working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she splits her time between that and navigating her life; as young people on these sorts of shows often do.
The pilot also features Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount as re-imagined versions of Josie and the Pussycats supporting characters Alexander and Alexandra Cabot.
As this is a pilot, it is unclear if the show will ever make it to air, but The CW seems interested in staying in business with Archie Comics and Hale, who starred in the network’s short-lived series Life Sentence last year.
