Deadline reports actors Michael Ealy and Mark Webber have joined the cast of ABC’s upcoming Stumptown pilot. Based on Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth’s irregular comic book series, Cobie Smulders stars as Portland-based private detective Dex Parios; an army veteran with a gambling problem who has turned to private investigations to make ends meet. She’s quite clever, which means she’s just a likely to land up in a heap of trouble as solve her next case.
Ealy is set to play Miles Hoffman, Portland PD detective on the hunt for escaped convict Samuel Kane. Kane, meanwhile, has reasons to meet up with Dex’s best friend Grey McConnell (Webber). The would-be mixologist with an unrequited crush on Dex who has hired her brother to help out as his bar.
First published in 2009, Stumptown was built as a series of short-run miniseries from Rucka and Southworth. Subsequent volumes were published in 2012 and 2014. Both writer and artist will serve as executive producers on the series, should ABC pick it up. Justin Greenwood and Elias Gertler will also serve as executive producers on the project. Jason Richman will adapt the comic book for executive producer Ruben Fleischer and ABC Studios.
