In-Shadow Reflects Our World In Unsettling Ways
by Tito W. James
In-Shadow is a lengthy animated short that critiques current social pressures to “think inside of the box,” put on a happy face, and ignore the problems eating our society from the inside.
In-Shadow opts for a motion comic style with limited animation that is evocative nonetheless. Visually, I was reminded of the works of James Lee and Robert Valley. The message of the film reminded me of Pearl Jam’s Do The Evolution and Gobelins’ The Ostrich Politic.

In-Shadow is abstract enough so that each viewer will be affected differently. My takeaway is that we will only overcome our problems if we open our eyes and expand our minds.
