First Look: Sorcerous Stabber Orphen PV

The first promotional video for the new Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime has released. Confirmed in March of last year, this series has been brought back in honor of the 25th anniversary of the light novels, penned by Yoshinobu Akita. The original Orphen followed the story of Krylancelo Finrandi, a powerful mage drop out from the Tower of Fang, a well-known mage school. At the school, he became friends with a young girl named Azalie, as the two bonded over their shared background of being orphans. But eventually, Azalie’s continued quest to gain power results in her transforming into a monstrous dragon-like creature, causing Krylancelo to abandon his life as a student (and take on the name “Orphen”) at the Tower in order to track her down and save her.
According to Anime News Network, this series will deal with the early parts of Krylancelo’s life as a student before he became a wanderer. However, the promotional video clearly also shows Azalie’s transformation into the dragon creature, so there’s a good chance this series will adapt the “Wanderer Arc” as well. There hasn’t been a window announced for the series’ release yet, but at this point it’s locked into either Summer or Fall for it to make the 25th anniversary.
That said, it’s probably better if they don’t rush it. Houshin Engi was cheated out of a proper adaptation because they forced the 23 volume manga into 23 episodes, and given there’s like three dozen volumes of the light novel in existence, it would be unfortunate if the series was similarly cut short.
