Nightflyer’s Sam Strike To Become The Gunslinger In Amazon’s Dark Tower Series
by Erik Amaya
Sam Strike may soon follow the Man in Black across the desert.
Deadline reports the Nightflyers veteran has been cast as Roland Deschain in Amazon’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower novel series. Reportedly, the initial season of the series will focus on Roland’s first mission as a Gunslinger, his first love, and his first encounter with Walter O’Dim, the Man in Black. Jasper Pääkkönen will reportedly play “Marten,” another of Walter’s various names.
Originally designed to compliment Sony’s Dark Tower feature from a few years back, the proposed Amazon’s series is a completely separate project with ground-up-thinking as it tries to adapt the 8 main Dark Tower novels and, presumably, some of the shorter material. King’s epic story tells the tale of Roland, the last of the Gunslingers, who crosses realities in the hopes of stopping the Man in Black from reaching the top of the Dark Tower and unraveling the underpinnings of every and all universes. In the feature, Roland was played by Idris Elba while Matthew McConaughey played Walter.
The streaming giant has yet to order a pilot, but considering its zeal in finding a Game of Thrones sized phenomenon, expect this to go through the process quickly.
