Hellboy David Harbour Joins The Marvel Universe With Black Widow Role
by Erik Amaya
David Harbour is the latest actor to make the leap from one comic book universe to another.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Hellboy star is joining the cast of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Black Widow. Based on the character created by Stan Lee, Don Rico and Don Heck, it will feature Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Natasha Romanoff in a story which is, at the moment, highly classified. Harbour’s role is currently unknown, but it is likely he will be part of the spy game Nat indulges in when not working with the Avengers.
Traditionally, the character emerged from a KGB training facility to do battle with American heroes before defecting and joining up with S.H.I.E.L.D. As her story has never really been told in the MCU, it is possible the story will take viewers back to those days and finally answer one lingering question about the her: is she old enough to be a Soviet asset?
Fighting With My Family‘s Florence Pugh will also appear in the film, reportedly a rival agent to Nat’s Black Widow.
The film will be directed by Lore‘s Cate Shortland from a script by Jac Schaeffer. It is not yet scheduled for release, but expect it to join the 2021 group of Marvel films.
