Stumptown Pilot Gets Picked Up By ABC, But Loses Its Name
by Erik Amaya
Cobie Smulders is coming back to television in a new ABC series based on a comic book. But it is not a Marvel property.
Deadline reports the Untitled Cobie Smulders Pilot has been picked up by the network. Based on the Stumptown comic series by Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth and Justin Greenwood, Smulders plays Dex Parios (Smulders), an Portland-area army veteran with a gambling problem who has turned to private investigations to make ends meet. She’s quite clever, which means she’s just a likely to land up in a heap of trouble as solve her next case. Jason Richman adapted the comic book for executive producer Ruben Fleischer and ABC Studios.
But here’s where things get interesting, the series will not be called Stumptown when it debuts. It is unclear why the project is currently untitled, but we’ll assume some sort of branding issue with the Portland, Oregon nickname may be involved. Several businesses also operate under the Stumptown name, making things difficult for product opportunities should the series prove successful.
Besides Smulders, the series will feature Tantoo Cardinal, Cole Sibus, Adrian Martinez, Camryn Manheim and Michael Ealy. Presumably, it will debut in the Fall.
