Devil’s Due Comics Releases New ‘Cease & DCist Edition’ Of AOC Comic
by James Ferguson
Devil’s Due Comics made a ton of waves with its Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force comic. The book highlights some of the newest Democratic members of Congress in a series of super-heroic mini-adventures taking on the GOP establishment from within. One of the twelve covers for the comic featured AOC as Wonder Woman which go the attention of DC Comics. Devil’s Due received a cease & desist letter. In response to this, Devil’s Due has revealed a new tongue-in-cheek replacement covered, aptly titled, The Cease & DCist Edition.
This new edition, designed by Joel Humberto Herrera, is limited to 500 copies and is available at OcasioComic.com. A portion of the proceeds is being donated to Raices Texas, a non-profit that provides legal services to immigrants and refugees for immigration protections. The cover features AOC, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Representative Ilhan Omar clad in super hero garb in front of the United States Capitol Building, with the title appearing in a very similar font to that of Mad Magazine, also part of DC Entertainment.
Devil’s Due Publisher Josh Blaylock says:
The irony is, the cease and desist was already a moot point by the time we received it. Regardless of it being unwarranted, as a retailer exclusive, the extremely limited amount of copies were already out of our hands. I’m assuming anyone who bought one is now awaiting trial in a Hall of Justice holding cell. Thoughts and prayers.
Devil’s Due Comics added that Wonder Woman and her attire make no appearance in this new edition, they cannot confirm or deny if the hero’s invisible jet is on the new cover.
