by James Ferguson

After a hit TV series on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy is making the rounds. It’s already getting a second season of the TV show and there’s a deluxe hardcover on the way from Dark Horse Comics. Now, the publisher has announced a partnership with Studio71 to create a card game based on the comic book series. A Kickstarter campaign will be launched in early 2020 to fund the game, a year after the TV show premiered.

Dan Weinstein, President and Co-Founder of Studio71 says:

We are incredibly excited to partner with Dark Horse Comics, Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá to bring The Umbrella Academy card game to fans next year. We’ve all been ardent consumers of the comic book series for years and are looking forward to launching the game. At Studio71 Games, we are passionate about building brands with long tail through a combination of premium expansion products as well as fan engagement across platforms, proprietary data analytics and out-of-the-box marketing.

Studio71 is no stranger to the games industry as it’s created some of the most popular games based on pop culture IP including Joking Hazard and Binding of Isaac: Four Souls.
Nick McWhorter, Chief Business Development Officer at Dark Horse Comics added:

We’re thrilled to be working with Studio71 on a The Umbrella Academy card game. Studio71’s previous success with game design, blockbuster Kickstarter campaigns and strong retail relationships make them an ideal partner for us.

It’s definitely a good time to be an Umbrella Academy fan.
