First Look At DC Black Label’s Re-imagined Harley Quinn Origin: Harleen

by Olly MacNamee

DC Black Label seem to be building up momentum once again, after a false start last year with the paranoia caused by the publication of the Bat-penis in Damned #1. But, it would seem that time heals all wounds and now, what with Superman Year One about to drop we have news of another new title coming this September from Stjepan Šejić.
Harleen is a re-imagined origin story set out of DC continuity, like the other DC Black Label books, and DC Comics are sharing some unlettered art pages ahead of it’s September 25th release date.
Šejić is a marvellous artist and the composition of these preview pages is amazing. It’s very reminiscent of the late, great Micheal Turner (Fathom). Can’t wait to see the script that goes along with these pages and the rest of the three-part series.

Dr. Harleen Quinzel has discovered a revolutionary cure for the madness of Gotham City—she just needs to prove it actually works. Through her studies of the criminals and sociopaths that pass through the halls of Arkham Asylum and the GCPD, Harleen is seeking to end the growing apathy among the citizens of Gotham. But with the criminal justice and mental health establishments united against her, the brilliant young psychologist must take drastic measures to save Gotham from itself.
Following an attack on the city by the villainous Joker, Harleen will come face-to-face with one of the many criminals she hopes to heal—but she will soon find herself drawn into the madness and insanity that plagues him. Witness Harleen’s first steps on a doomed quest that will launch the legendary super-villain Harley Quinn in this stunning reimagining of Harley and the Joker’s twisted and tragic love affair.

That’s quite the synopsis. Now, here’s the art.

Harleen #1 will be out September 25th doom DC Comics.
