IDW Publishing Expands Transformers Line With Galaxies Spin-Off Series
by James Ferguson
IDW Publishing relaunched Transformers earlier this year taking the series into a bold new era back on Cybertron. This September, they’re launching the first spin-off series with Transformers: Galaxies. This monthly series will feature story arcs that dig deeper into the origins, motivations, and world-shattering machinations of the extended Transformers cast. From the sound of it, this will be similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe, a book that included stories that didn’t necessarily fit into the main comic. The first story arc is dedicated to the Constructicons.
Written by Tyler Bleszinski and illustrated by Livio Ramondelli, Transformers: Galaxies #1 will uncover the hidden secrets behind Cybertron’s vast beauty and extraordinary cityscapes. We’ll return to the aftermath of the War Against the Threefold Spark where the Constructicons emerged to help rebuild the decimated planet. What happened to them after that? Why have they been erased from Cybertron’s history? And what have they been planning for their return?
Writer Tyler Bleszinski says:
I’ve dreamed of the day that I could somehow be involved in the Transformers universe. Humanizing the Constructicons in a refreshed origin story with Livio Ramondelli – one of the most talented Transformers artists ever – will be one of the highlights of my life and will give me the opportunity to share my passion for these incredible creations with my kids’ generation. This is truly a dream come true.
Editor David Mariotte added:
Transformers: Galaxies delves into what’s happening away from Cybertron. Tyler and Livio are working on a story about broken promises and lost futures — about those who fall by the wayside to maintain a utopia.
Transformers: Galaxies will feature multiple variant covers including one by Ramondelli, another by Nick Roche, and two retailer incentive covers by George Caltsoudas and Casey W. Coller, respectively. The series is set to launch in September 2019.
