The Sarge Meets The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. In A Clip From Tonight’s Episode

by Erik Amaya

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been really good this year. Possibly the best its ever been thanks to continuing space adventures and a genuinely great mystery back on Earth. But through it all, one person has been missing: Phil Coulson. Sure, Clark Gregg is still on the show, but his new character, the Sarge, is nothing like our favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. And as Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and some of the others discover in this clip, the universe is a cruel trickster in giving the Sarge a face and voice like their dearly departed friend.

I have to admit, I like Gregg as this anti-Coulson. It puts such a different spin on the actor’s idiosyncrasies. It also gives the other cast members an opportunity to have new and varied reactions to him. Daisy’s is by far my favorite.
But at the same time, it seems Sarge’s quest to end the Shrike may be related to what happen with the Chronicom planet. If that’s the case, then perhaps Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons’ (Elizabeth Henstridge) work with time travel will save the day and, maybe, even give the team a way to trade out Sarge for the real Coulson. Anything is possible on this show, as they’ve proven with last year’s time travel story and the Ghost Rider tale before it. Maybe they’ll earn a way to bring Coulson back. And even if they don’t, this season has been such a satisfying ride that we can’t wait to see what happens next.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays on ABC.
